Objective
This article explains how administrators can perform a "push restore" from the CrashPlan web console. This advanced feature allows you to start a restore job remotely, pushing files directly from a backup destination to a target device via the CrashPlan app.
Prerequisites
- You must possess a user role that grants
pushrestorepermissions in the CrashPlan console. - The target device receiving the restored files must be currently online.
- Device restores can be any size, they are not affected by your organization's web restore size limit.
Procedure
- Open a web browser and sign in to the CrashPlan console.
- Navigate to Administration > Devices.
- Locate the device containing the files you want to restore from.
- Click the Restore icon
in the right column.
The Web Restore dialog box opens. - For Restore target, select Device.
- Enter the device name or device ID within the Target device field and select it from the drop-down list.
If the target device is offline, an "Authority can't connect to device, restore unavailable" error message will appear. - Update the restore options to specify your desired Target location, If file already exists behavior, and Permissions.
For detailed explanations of how these settings behave, see Understanding restore file options. - Select the checkboxes next to the files or folders you want to restore from the file tree.
Having trouble finding a file? See our guides on searching for files, restoring previous versions, or restoring deleted files. - Click Restore.
A notification pop-up will appear in the CrashPlan console indicating that the restore has been initiated. The user on the Target device can open the CrashPlan app and click Downloads to view the status of the push restore.
