Restoring previous file versions

Objective

This article explains how to restore an older version of a single file, or how to view your entire backup archive as it existed on a specific date in the past to restore multiple files.

Prerequisites

  • The CrashPlan app must be installed on your device, or you must have access to a web browser to use the CrashPlan console.

Procedure

Restoring files as of a specific date

Use this method to change the date of your entire restore view. This is useful if you want to restore an entire folder or multiple files to the exact state they were in on a past date.

CrashPlan app

  1. Sign in to the CrashPlan app.
  2. Click Restore Files.
  3. Click As of Today.
    A calendar will appear.
  4. Select a previous date and time from the calendar to act as your restore point.
    The file browser will refresh to display your files exactly as they existed at that specific date and time.
  5. Select the checkboxes next to the folders and files you want to restore.
  6. Click Restore Files.
  7. Specify your restore options, then click Go.

CrashPlan console

  1. Open a web browser and sign in to the CrashPlan console.
  2. Navigate to Administration > Devices.
  3. Locate the device you want to restore from and click the Restore icon Restore_icon.png.
  4. If prompted, specify the restore target (Zip file or Device).

  5. Click the Restore files as of calendar icon.
  6. Select a previous date from the calendar to act as your restore point.
    The file tree refreshes show the files as of the selected date.
  7. Select checkboxes next to the files or folders you want to restore.
  8. Click Restore to begin the download.

Restoring a previous version of a single file

Use this method if you need to view the history of a specific file and restore one of its older versions.

CrashPlan app

  1. Sign in to the CrashPlan app.
  2. Click Restore Files.
  3. Locate the file you want to restore in the file tree.
  4. Hover your mouse over the file and click the versions icon clock icon.
    All versions of the file backed up prior to the selected date will display.
  5. Select the file version you need to download.
  6. Click Restore Files.
  7. Specify your restore options, then click Go.

CrashPlan console

  1. Open a web browser and sign in to the CrashPlan console.
  2. Navigate to Administration > Devices.
  3. Locate the device you want to restore from and click the Restore icon Restore_icon.png.
  4. If prompted, specify the restore target (Zip file or Device).

  5. Locate the specific file in the file tree.
  6. Click the arrow icon next to the file name.
    A list of the file's previous versions will expand beneath it.
  7. Select a previous date from the calendar to act as your restore point.
    The file tree refreshes show the files as of the selected date.
  8. Select checkbox next to the version you want to restore.
  9. Click Restore to begin the download.
