Searching for files to restore

Overview

This article explains how to locate specific files or folders using the search feature in the CrashPlan app's Restore Files menu or the CrashPlan console's Web restore menu.

Prerequisites

  • The CrashPlan app must be installed on your device, or you must have access to a web browser to use the CrashPlan console.

Procedure

CrashPlan app

  1. Open and sign in to the CrashPlan app
  2. Click Restore Files.
  3. Click the search icon magnifying glass icon.
  4. Type the file/folder name, keyword, or extension into the search bar.
  5. Press Enter to start the search
    Results will populate when the search completes.
  6. From the search results, you can:
    • Restore files directly from the search results.
    • Click into folders to view and restore contained files.
    • View prior file versions for files in the results.

CrashPlan console

  1. Sign in to the CrashPlan console.
  2. Navigate to Administration > Devices.
  3. Locate the device containing the files you want to restore and click the Restore icon Restore icon.
  4. If prompted, specify the restore target (Zip file or Device).

  5. Type the file name, folder name, keyword, or extension into the Find files to restore text box.

  6. Press Enter to start the search.
    Results will populate when the search completes.
  7. Select the checkboxes next to the files or folders you want to restore.
  8. Click Restore to begin the download.

Search operators

When entering a term into the search bar, the CrashPlan app applies the following operators and matching logic:
