If you purchased your CrashPlan subscription online, you can change its term, and add licenses to a user-based plan, from the License Plan page in the CrashPlan console. On a device-based plan, the number of licenses follows the number of active devices.
Requirements
- A CrashPlan subscription purchased online. Subscriptions purchased through the CrashPlan sales team, a managed service provider (MSP), or a reseller are changed by that party.
- A CrashPlan account with the Customer Cloud Admin or Billing Admin role.
Change your subscription term
A CrashPlan subscription term can be lengthened from the License Plan page: from monthly to yearly or two-year, and from yearly to two-year. To move to a shorter term, contact CrashPlan technical support. Monthly terms are no longer available on most plans.
- Sign in to the CrashPlan console.
- Select Administration > Status > License Plan.
- Click Change Plan.
- Select the new term.
- Review the estimated charge.
The estimate shows the total price of the new term, plus tax. The amount charged to your payment method will include a prorated credit for the unused part of the current term. - Click Buy Now.
Add licenses to a user-based plan
Licenses are added to a user-based CrashPlan plan from the License Plan page.
- Sign in to the CrashPlan console.
- Select Administration > Status > License Plan.
- Click Change Plan.
- In Additional Number of Users, enter the number of licenses to add.
- Review the estimated charge.
The estimate shows the total price of the added licenses, plus tax. The amount charged to your payment method will be prorated for the rest of the current term. - Click Buy Now.
Reduce licenses on a user-based plan
To reduce the number of licenses on a user-based CrashPlan plan, contact CrashPlan technical support with the number of licenses you need.
Add or remove licenses on a device-based plan
A device-based CrashPlan plan uses one license for each active device, and the subscription updates automatically:
- Add a license: Install the CrashPlan app on another device and sign in. The device becomes active and uses a license.
- Remove a license: Deactivate a device you no longer back up. On CrashPlan for MSPs, the license is released when the device's archive leaves cold storage.
The number of licenses on the License Plan page updates when active devices are next counted: 48 hours before each billing date on a monthly term, and 48 hours before renewal on a yearly or two-year term. No request is needed to update it.
When licenses on a device-based CrashPlan plan are charged depends on the term:
- Monthly term: Each charge covers the devices counted before that billing date.
- Yearly or two-year term: The payment at the start of the term covers the devices active at that time. Devices you add during the term are charged monthly, at a prorated rate for the rest of the term. Licenses for devices you remove stay available until the term ends.
