Changes to US2 server URLs in August 2021

This article applies to all products.png

Overview

URL redirects expire September 15, 2023

Beginning September 15, 2023, console URL redirects will no longer function and will need to be updated to the new URLs listed. For more information, see the related announcement.

To ensure the security and integrity of the CrashPlan cloud, we implemented a networking update on August 3, 2021 that resulted in the following URL changes:

  • CrashPlan enterprise US2 cloud:
    • CrashPlan console URL www.crashplan.com/console is now console.us2.crashplan.com
    • Server address for CrashPlan app connections central.crashplan.com is now clients.us2.crashplan.com
  • CrashPlan for Small Business:
    • CrashPlan console URL www.crashplanpro.com is now console.us2.crashplanpro.com
    • Server address for CrashPlan app connections central.crashplanpro.com is now clients.us2.crashplanpro.com

The previous URLs now automatically redirect to the new URLs. All bookmarks, settings, or scripts that use the previous URLs work without intervention on your part.

However, to ensure uninterrupted service going forward, we recommend that you change the old URLs to the new URLs. If you need help, contact our technical support team.

Affects

This change affects:

  • CrashPlan enterprise customers with tenants in the US2 cloud.
  • CrashPlan for Small Business customers.

This change does not affect CrashPlan customers with tenants in the following clouds:

  • United States
    • US1: console.us.crashplan.com
  •  Ireland
    • EU1: console.ie.crashplan.com

What should I do?

CrashPlan enterprise

CrashPlan administrators

While all operations continue normally because of automatic redirects to the new URLs, we recommend that administrators with tenants in the US2 cloud update instances of URL www.crashplan.com to console.us2.crashplan.com in all locations where the URL appears to ensure continued uninterrupted service going forward. These locations may include:

  • Bookmark links
  • SSO and provisioning settings
  • API scripts
  • Deployment policy files

We also recommend that administrators change US2 deployments that currently use the central.crashplan.com URL to now use the clients.us2.crashplan.com URL.

Users of the CrashPlan app

No action is needed by users of the CrashPlan app. Connections that use the new URL continue uninterrupted.

However, for those CrashPlan app users that also sign in to the CrashPlan console, we recommend they update any bookmarks to the old www.crashplan.com/console URL to point to the new console.us2.crashplan.com URL.

CrashPlan for Small Business

CrashPlan for Small Business administrators

While all operations continue normally because of automatic redirects to the new URLs, we recommend that administrators update all bookmark links from www.crashplanpro.com to console.us2.crashplanpro.com.

CrashPlan for Small Business users of the CrashPlan app

No action is needed by users of the CrashPlan app. Connections that use the new URL continue uninterrupted.

However, for those CrashPlan app users that also sign in to the US2 console, we recommend they update any bookmarks to the old www.crashplanpro.com URL to point to the new console.us2.crashplanpro.com address.

Frequently asked questions

How can I ensure uninterrupted service?

Service should continue uninterrupted for all CrashPlan enterprise and CrashPlan for Small Business customers. Going forward, however, for our US2 customers, we recommend updating to the new URLs to ensure continued service.

What happens if I don't update my URLs?

All operations should continue normally. However, we can't guarantee continued uninterrupted operation in the future if you use the old URLs.

How do I find the the URLs to update?

Administrators of tenants in the US2 cloud should search for the previous URL addresses in all places where they can appear, such as:

  • Bookmark links
  • SSO and provisioning settings
  • API scripts
  • Deployment policy files

Why did CrashPlan make this change?

We made infrastructure changes to improve the security and performance of our servers. The new URLs resulted from these changes.

As we continue to make updates, other changes may occur that require you to take action. Regularly check our release notes to keep informed about changes that may impact you:
