Objective
Use this guide to download and install the CrashPlan app on your device. You will typically need to follow these steps if you are adding a new device to your account or replacing an existing device.
Prerequisites
- A supported operating system version is required.
- Devices must meet the minimum system requirements.
- You must have the necessary permissions to install software on your device.
- Your organization does not use a deployment tool to automatically install the CrashPlan app.
Procedure
Follow these steps to download the CrashPlan app installer and install the app on your device.
Step 1: Download the CrashPlan app installer

Step 2: Install the CrashPlan app
Follow the steps below for your operating system.
Windows
- Double-click the downloaded executable file.
- Click Next to start the setup wizard.
- Select the Standard installation type.
The Custom installation type is only required in very specific scenarios. - Click Install.
- If prompted by User Account Control, click Yes.
- Click Finish when the installation completes.
Mac
- Double-click the downloaded DMG file to mount it.
- Double-click the Install CrashPlan icon.
- Click Continue to proceed through the installer introduction.
- Select the Install for all users of this computer and Continue.
Install for me only is only required in very specific scenarios. - Click Install.
- Enter your Mac administrator credentials and click Install Software.
- Click Close when the installation completes.
Linux
The CrashPlan app cannot be installed as the root user.
- Open the Terminal application.
- Navigate to the directory containing the extracted installer file.

Enter the following command to execute the installation script:
sudo ./install.sh - If prompted, enter your Linux administrator password.
- Press Enter to continue with installation.
- If prompted, type
yornto answer any remaining configuration prompts.
