CrashPlan app version 10.x release notes

This page lists new features and bug fixes for CrashPlan app version 10.

CrashPlan app version 10.4.1

User devices begin automatically upgrading November 21, 2022, unless your administrator configured an update delay.

Enhancements and updates

  • Performance improvements.
  • Improvements to logging.
  • Updated all instances of Apache Commons Text to 1.10.0 to further mitigate the vulnerability described in CVE-2022-42889.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue where duplicate and nested folders appeared in archives of Windows devices containing files with ADS metadata.

CrashPlan app version 10.4.0

User devices begin automatically upgrading October 17, 2022, unless your administrator configured an update delay.

Enhancements and updates

  • For Macs, uninstalling the CrashPlan app now uses a Terminal command, instead of the Uninstall.app file. If you use scripts or MDM commands to uninstall the CrashPlan app on Macs, you may need to update them for CrashPlan app version 10.4.
  • Released a new universal installer for Mac that works for both Intel (x86) and Silicon (ARM) devices.
  • Performance and stability improvements.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue where installing the CrashPlan app on a Linux Ubuntu or RHEL device did not prompt to install the libxss1 dependency if it was missing. The Code42 app uses this library to determine if the user is away or present.
  • Fixed an issue where usernames containing the $ character could prevent the user's home directory from backing up properly.
  • Fixed a rare issue where restoring files would stall on certain Mac devices.

CrashPlan app version 10.2.1

User devices begin automatically upgrading August 3, 2022, unless your administrator configured a client update delay.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue where restore jobs could fail to start properly.

CrashPlan app version 10.2.0

User devices begin automatically upgrading July 12, 2022, unless your administrator configured a client update delay.

Enhancements and updates

  • Security updates.
  • Added support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) version 9.
  • Added support for Ubuntu 22.04.

Bug fixes

General

  • Performance and stability improvements.
  • Fixed an issue for macOS Monterey devices where the CrashPlan app could inadvertently cause online-only files in cloud storage to be downloaded to the device.
  • Fixed an issue on macOS devices where the CrashPlan app always detected the user as present.
  • Fixed an issue where the CrashPlan app could prevent users from renaming or deleting files in a OneDrive folder under specific circumstances.
  • Improvements to logging.
  • Fixed an issue for Macs with the M1 processor where the CrashPlan app could use unexpectedly high amounts of memory and CPU resources under some circumstances.

Deployment, installation, and upgrades

Fixed issues where:

  • Deploying the CrashPlan app to devices that require a proxy connection could be delayed by 5 minutes instead of deploying immediately.
  • Device migration could fail for devices using a custom proxy auto-config (PAC) file with the error "Unable to reach the server."
  • Windows devices using the User State Migration Tool (USMT) could fail to back up the user profile (.MIG file) for users on legal hold.

Backup and restore

  • For devices backing up to new storage destinations as part of recent changes to CrashPlan cloud infrastructure, fixed the following issues:
    • Smaller files were not prioritized for backup ahead of larger files in rare cases.
    • Backups could happen over excluded networks.
    • On Mac devices, files inside a symlink directory were not available to restore in some circumstances.
    • Other performance and stability improvements.
  • Fixed an issue on macOS devices where opening a file without modifying it could result in a new version being backed up in some circumstances.

CrashPlan app version 10.0.0

User devices begin automatically upgrading May 12, 2022, unless your administrator configured a client update delay.

Enhancements and updates

  • Security updates.
  • The SHA256 hash of the user detection script is now included in the Logs folder. This enables you to confirm the integrity of the script run on each device.
  • Mac devices no longer use audio and video activity to determine if the user is away or present.
  • Updates to logging.

  • Fixed several issues for Macs with the M1 processor where:

    • Rosetta 2 was required to complete the installation process (even though the primary functions of the app did not use Rosetta 2).
    • The Apple System Report settings could list the CrashPlan application type as "iOS." Now, it correctly displays "Apple Silicon."
  • For Macs with an external graphics cards (eGPU), fixed an issue where the CrashPlan app could prevent proper disconnection of the eGPU.
  • Fixed an issue where the proxy auto-config (PAC) file was not evaluated correctly if the last line in the file was a comment (starting with //).
  • Fixed an issue where CrashPlan app upgrades could fail to download for devices connected to the Internet via a proxy server.
  • Fixed a very rare issue where an unusual trust certificate configuration could prevent the CrashPlan app from being deployed to new devices.
  • Fixed two minor formatting issues in the com.crashplan.service.plist file.

  • Fixed an issue for Windows devices using the User State Migration Tool (USMT) where contents of the user_settings directory were not available to restore under certain circumstances.
