Supported app versions and automatic upgrades

Overview

To ensure optimal security and performance, CrashPlan actively supports specific versions of the CrashPlan app. While older app versions may still connect to the cloud environment, CrashPlan automatically upgrades devices to the newest app version via a staged rollout process to keep them protected.

This article details which app versions are currently supported, how the automatic upgrade process works, and the operating system requirements necessary to receive updates.

Supported app versions

To receive technical support and ensure access to the latest features, devices must run a supported app version. We actively support:

The CrashPlan console provides download links for the supported versions of the CrashPlan app. Older installation files are not available.

Automatic upgrades and staged rollouts

To ensure your devices remain secure and functional, the CrashPlan app is designed to upgrade automatically.

Staged rollouts

To maintain product stability and cloud performance, CrashPlan releases new app versions using a staged rollout. Updates are released gradually to segments of devices over a period of approximately two weeks.

Because devices are selected for upgrade in semi-randomized batches, the exact timing of an automatic upgrade will vary. It may take up to two weeks for the update to reach your devices. Occasionally, CrashPlan may bypass the staged rollout process to deploy critical updates to all supported devices immediately.

 Manually upgrading the CrashPlan app
Staged rollouts only apply to automatic agent upgrades. If you need the latest version immediately, the newest installation files are always available to download from the CrashPlan console on the day of release.

Exceptions to automatic upgrades

Devices will automatically upgrade to the most current version during the rollout period unless:

  • An upgrade delay is in place: Your administrator has configured a client upgrade delay.
  • The operating system is unsupported: The device is running an unsupported operating system. The CrashPlan app will not upgrade until the device's OS is updated to a supported version.
