Overview
The CrashPlan app is certified only for systems that meet our system requirements. Whenever possible, we provide troubleshooting resources or recommendations to help you use the app in a supported way.
Please note that our technical support team cannot assist with unsupported configurations or processes, and users assume all risk for unintended behavior when utilizing them.
Unsupported configurations
The following examples represent common unsupported configurations, but this list is not exhaustive.
Install the CrashPlan app to a non-default location
CrashPlan does not support installing the app outside of its default install location. Doing so may cause the app to function improperly.
Run the CrashPlan app on pre-release operating systems
We cannot guarantee functionality or provide troubleshooting for alpha, beta, or other pre-release operating systems. The CrashPlan app is only certified for standard, publicly released operating system versions.
Reassign cache location
Moving your CrashPlan app cache files to a different drive to save storage space is an unsupported process.
Your cache files contain temporary data about your backup selection and help the app run efficiently. Because these files grow based on the size of your backup, they can take up significant space. To free up space on your system drive, we recommend that you [clear your cache] instead.
Back up to or from network-attached storage (NAS)
The CrashPlan app does not support non-local storage (such as network shares, Windows mapped drives, or standalone NAS devices) for the following:
- As a source to back up
- As a destination to store backups
Run the CrashPlan app in containerized environments
CrashPlan does not support running the app within Docker or similar containerized environments. We do not provide or maintain official CrashPlan container images.
While you may find third-party community images online, these are not tested or certified by CrashPlan. Our technical support team cannot assist with configuration or troubleshooting of these environments.
Run the CrashPlan app on headless devices
CrashPlan does not support installing or running the app on "headless" devices or operating systems that lack a desktop environment. A graphical user interface (GUI) is strictly required to open the CrashPlan app and authenticate with the CrashPlan cloud.
