Unable to restore from CrashPlan app while synchronizing

Problem

Users are unable to restore files from a cloud destination because the CrashPlan app is actively synchronizing.

Environment

  • CrashPlan app
  • Restoring from a cloud destination.
  • user role with pushrestore permissions.
If your user cannot perform device "push" restores, contact your administrator for assistance.

Resolution

If you need to restore a file immediately and cannot wait for the CrashPlan app to finish synchronizing, you can push a restore from the web console and then force the app to reconnect:

  1. Open a web browser and sign in to the CrashPlan console.
  2. Navigate to Administration > Devices.
  3. Click the Restore icon Restore_icon.png next to the device containing the files you want to download.
  4. For Restore target, select Device.
  5. Enter the name of the synchronizing device into the Target device field and select it from the drop-down list.
  6. If prompted, specify any restore options.
  7. Select the checkboxes next to the files or folders you want to restore.
  8. Click Restore to initiate the push restore.
  9. Open the CrashPlan app and sign in on the target device.
  10. Open the CrashPlan Commands window by entering the keyboard shortcut for your operating system:
    • Windows/Linux: Ctrl+Shift+C
    • Mac: Option+Command+C
  11. Enter the command reconnect and press Enter.
  12. Click Downloads in the CrashPlan app to verify that your push restore successfully begins downloading.
