Granting Full Disk Access to the CrashPlan app

Objective

This article explains how to grant Full Disk Access to the CrashPlan app on macOS. Completing this configuration ensures that the CrashPlan app can back up personal data folders, or restore files to those locations.

Prerequisites

  • Your device must be running a supported version of macOS.
  • You must have local administrator credentials for your Mac to change system settings.
  • Your organization does not automatically manage your device using a Mobile Device Management (MDM) tool.

Centrally managed environments
If your device is managed by your IT team, contact your administrator rather than using the steps below. Full Disk Access may already be enabled.

This procedure only needs to be completed once per device.

  1. Open the Apple System Settings menu.
  2. Click Privacy & Security.
  3. Click Full Disk Access.
  4. If CrashPlan is not already listed, click the + icon below the list and select it from your Applications folder.
  5. Click the toggle next to CrashPlan to enable it.
A message appears stating CrashPlan will not have full disk access until it is quit.
  6. Click Quit and Reopen.
  7. Return to the CrashPlan app.
  8. Open the CrashPlan Commands window using one of the following methods:
    • Double-click the CrashPlan logo.
    • Press Option+Command+C on your keyboard.
  9. Type restart into the Command window.
  10. Press Return.
This closes the app and restarts the underlying service to apply the permissions.
