Why are we using more licenses than we have active users?

I'm not on a device-based billing plan. Why does the CrashPlan console report a higher number of licenses in use than users that I have in my organization?

Answer

If your subscription shows more total licenses in-use than the total number of active users displayed on the Users > Active screen in the CrashPlan console, it may be because you have data in cold storage that is consuming a subscription. When users are deactivated, their backup archives go into cold storage where they continue to consume user subscriptions until they expire and are permanently deleted.

To free up subscriptions before expiration, you can purge archives from cold storage.
