Submit tax exemption or tax ID information

VAT numbers and tax exemptions for a CrashPlan subscription purchased online are handled by Paddle, the merchant of record that sells the subscription and collects sales tax and VAT on each charge.

Add a VAT number when you subscribe

A VAT number can be added to a CrashPlan subscription at checkout, including when starting a free trial. In the checkout window, click Add VAT number, enter the number, and complete the checkout. Paddle applies it to the subscription's charges from the first payment.

A tax exemption, such as a US sales tax exemption, cannot be added at checkout. Request it from Paddle after the first payment.

Request a tax exemption or change your tax ID

To apply a tax exemption or change the tax ID on an existing CrashPlan subscription, or to request a refund of tax you were already charged, send the request to Paddle. Paddle applies an exemption to future charges, and refunds the tax on a payment when the request is made within 60 days of that payment.

  1. Obtain the tax exemption certificate or form your country or US state requires. Where the form asks for the seller, use the Paddle entity and address shown on your CrashPlan invoice.
  2. Submit the request at https://paddle.net, or email it to Paddle's sales tax and VAT team at assist@paddle.com. Include:
    • The certificate or tax ID
    • The email address the CrashPlan subscription was purchased with
    • The transaction ID from your CrashPlan invoice, which is labeled Transaction and begins with txn_

CrashPlan technical support is not able to process tax exemptions or tax refunds.

Tax refunds are governed by Paddle's buyer terms, which take precedence if they differ from this article. Answers to other questions about Paddle as a seller are in the FAQ for Paddle Buyers. If Paddle's FAQ does not answer your question, contact them at https://paddle.net.
