Problem
The CrashPlan app displays a "Network blocked – Backup will resume automatically on approved networks" status message when a device's network connection is restricted by the backup settings.
This typically occurs if a device is connected to a hotspot, a metered connection, or a specific network interface that has been excluded to conserve data.
Environment
Classic Endpoint app
Solution
Administrators can remove this blocked status by modifying both the Metered or Low Data Networks toggle and the Network Interface Exclusions list within the backup configuration for an organization or single device.
Option 1: Organization level fix
Use this method if you want to allow backups on these networks for all devices within an organization.
Sign in to the CrashPlan Console.
Navigate to Administration > Organizations
Click on the specific organization name you want to modify.
Open the Action Menu (gear icon) in the top right and choose Device Backup Defaults.
Select the Network tab.
Uncheck the box next to Exclude Metered or Low Data Networks.
Review the Excluded Network Interfaces list and click the X icon next to an entry to remove it from the exclusion list.
Click Save to commit the changes to the configuration, and then Push and/or Lock icon next to the settings to immediately deploy them to all existing devices.
Option 2: Individual device fix
Use this method if the settings are left unlocked at the organization level and you only want to unblock a single device.
Sign in to the CrashPlan Console.
Navigate to Administration > Devices.
Click on the name of the specific device device that is blocked.
Open the Action Menu (gear icon) in the top right and choose Edit.
Select the Network tab.
Uncheck the box next to Exclude Metered or Low Data Networks.
Review the Excluded Network Interfaces list and click the X icon next to an entry to remove it from the exclusion list.
Click Save.
