Quit and exit the device replacement wizard

Objective

This article explains how to manually abort and exit the replace device wizard in the CrashPlan app. You may need to use this procedure if you started the wizard by mistake or if the wizard becomes unresponsive during a large file transfer.

Option 1: Exit from Step 1 of the wizard

You can use this option from Step 1 or Step 2 of the wizard.

  1. If in Step 2, click Change Device to return to Step 1.
  2. In Step 1, scroll to the bottom of the list of devices.
  3. Select the option at the bottom of the list, either labeled Add as new device or Use current device.
  4. Click Continue and confirm if prompted.

Option 2: Abort from the command-line menu

  1. Open the CrashPlan Commands menu by using the keyboard shortcut for your specific operating system:
    • Windows and Linux: Ctrl+Shift+C
    • macOS: Option+Command+C
  2. In the text box at the top of the window, type the following command: replace.device abort
  3. Press Enter. The wizard will immediately force quit, allowing you to restart the CrashPlan app and resume normal use or restart the replacement process.
