Devices reference (Small Business)

Overview

Devices displays list of devices within your CrashPlan for Small Business environment. Use the Active Devices screen to restore files for users and learn about the backup status for devices in your CrashPlan for Small Business environment.

Devices

The Devices screens display information about the devices in your CrashPlan for Small Business environment. From Active Devices, you can:

  • Add new devices
  • Click a device name to display that device's details and settings
  • Click the check box next to a device's name to perform actions on the selected device

To view the Active Devices page, sign in to the CrashPlan console and select Devices > Active.

Item Description Click to view
a Active Displays all active devices.  
b Deactivated Displays all deactivated devices.  
c Backup Alerts Displays all devices with an alert status.   
d Action menu Display commands for the operations you can apply to selected items or the entire list.

Add a new device

Download the CrashPlan app installer for the platform you select.  
f Select all Selects all the devices in the list.  
g Name

Device name.
The sort arrow indicates sort order. Click the arrow to switch between ascending or descending.


Note: A single device is displayed multiple times if the CrashPlan app is installed per user for multiple user accounts.

h Hostname

The name of the device as reported by the device's operating system.

 

Unlike the existing device name field, hostname is a static device property that cannot be edited by users.

 
i OS Operating system for this device.

j Authority Connection Indicates whether or not this computer is connected to an online destination. Colors represent status:
  • Green - connected
  • Gray - not connected

k Stored

Total amount of data backed up for this device.

l Alerts

Device alert status:

  • OK - Device backup: recent
  • WarningBackupAlert - Device backup: warning threshold
  • CriticalBackupAlert - Device backup: critical threshold

Configure warning and critical thresholds at Settings > Reporting. If a device is backing up to multiple destinations, the overview shows the most severe alert.

m Last Backup Activity Amount of time since any backup activity from this device took place.

n Restore Restore files for the selected device to the device you are currently using.  Click to view web restore.

Action menu

From Devices, select the action menu gear icon.png.

Command Description
Show Active Displays all active devices. Not available when active devices are currently displayed.
Show Deactivated Displays all deactivated devices. Not available when deactivated devices are currently displayed.
Show Alerts Displays all devices with an alert status.
Pause Backup

Pauses backup for a selected device.

Resume Backup Resumes a backup that has been paused for a selected device.
Restart Backup Engine Restarts the backup engine for a selected device.
Verify File Selection Trigger the file selection verification scan to begin immediately for a selected device.
Block

Signs the user out of the CrashPlan app on the selected device(s) and prevents the user from signing in until the device is unblocked. Backup continues and archives remain active and stored. This option is not available if the selected user is already blocked.

Unblock Unblock a blocked user. This option is only available if the selected user is currently blocked.
Export All Export selected item to CSV file. If no user is selected, all devices in the list are exported.

Add a new device

After selecting Add A New Device from the Device Overview, instructions for downloading the CrashPlan app display. Click Yes, Continue to proceed to App Downloads.

CSV export

Export all visible list items to a CSV file by selecting the action menu > Export All. If no device is selected, all devices in the list are exported. The following attributes are exported to the CSV file.

Field Description
computerId Identification number for the device.
name Device's name.
guid GUID of the device.
status Active, deauthorized, deactivated, or blocked
active TRUE: Device is active
FALSE: Device is deactivated
blocked TRUE: Device is blocked
FALSE: Device is not blocked
alertState Backup alert state of this device.
userId Identification number of the device's user.
orgId Identification number of the device's organization.
lastConnected Time when the device last connected to the authority server.
osName Operating system of the device.
osVersion Version of the operating system of the device.
osArch Architecture of the device. For example, amd64, i386, x86, x86_64.
address IP address the CrashPlan app last reported to the authority server.
remoteAddress

CrashPlan for Small Business: The address CrashPlan for Small Business's cloud sees for this device.

javaVersion Version of Java that the CrashPlan app uses on this device.
timeZone Time zone the device last reported to the authority server.
displayVersion Version number for the device's installation of the CrashPlan app.
service Indicates which service the device is using.
targetComputerId Identification number of the device used for computer-to-computer backup.
Computer-to-computer backup is deprecated.
targetComputerGuid GUID of the device used for computer-to-computer backup.
Computer-to-computer backup is deprecated.
targetComputerName Name of the backup destination of the device used for computer-to-computer backup.
Computer-to-computer backup is deprecated.
targetComputerOsName Operating system for the device used for computer-to-computer backup.
Computer-to-computer backup is deprecated.
targetComputerType Type of device used for computer-to-computer backup. This is either a SERVER or DEVICE.
Computer-to-computer backup is deprecated.
selectedFiles Total number of files selected for backup from this device.
selectedBytes

Total number of bytes selected for backup.

todoFiles

Total number files remaining to back up.

todoBytes

Total bytes of data remaining to back up.

archiveBytes

Total bytes the archive occupies on disk.

billableBytes Amount of data that is billable.
lastActivity Time since the device sent any backup data to the specified destination.
lastCompleted Time since the device last completed a backup to the specified destination.
lastConnected

Time when this device last connected to a storage destination.
This field differs from the first instance of lastConnected returned in the CSV export, which indicates the time when the device last connected to the authority server.

using

TRUE: An archive for the device exists in the CrashPlan for Small Business environment.

FALSE: No archive exists for the device in the CrashPlan for Small Business environment.

targetAlertState Backup alert state for the device used for computer-to-computer backup.
percentComplete Percentage of restore that is complete.
userUid The user's UID (unique identifier).
orgUid The UID (unique ID) of the user's organization. 
computerExtRef Customer-provided reference for the device.

modelInfo

Device's hardware model information.

creationDate

Date the device was first registered.

modificationDate

Time when the device's database record was last updated.

loginDate

Time when the device last connected to the authority server.
upgradeAvailable

Whether a new version of the CrashPlan app is available for the device. Values are true or false.

Device details

From the Device Overview, click on a device to view the device details.

Item   Description Click to view
a Operating system   Displays this device's operating system. Mouse over to display the operating system version.  
b Device name   Name for this device. Go to the action menu gear icon.png > Edit > General or to the CrashPlan app to update.  
c GUID   Globally Unique Identifier for this device.  
d Username   The username for the user that owns the displayed device.

Click to view User Detail.

e Hostname  

The name of the device as reported by the device's operating system.

 

Unlike the existing device name field, hostname is a static device property that cannot be edited by users.

Action menu (device)

  The action menu gear icon.png displays the actions that you can perform on this device.  
g Authority Connection   Indicates whether the device is connected to the authority server.  
h IP Address   The IP address the CrashPlan app last reported to the authority server (as reported by the device's operating system).  
i Restores   The number of restores initiated for files backed up from the displayed device. Click to view the full Restore History.
j Version   Version number for the device's installation of the CrashPlan app.  
k Date Created   Date the device was created within the CrashPlan for Small Business environment.  
l Destination  

Name of the backup destination.

The icon next to the destination name indicates the type of destination:

  • Cloud icon: cloud destination
  • Computer icon: device location
  • Hard drive icon: local folder destination
 
m Selected   Amount of data on this device that is selected for backup.  
n Backup Status  

Progress bar representing the amount of data backed up and the amount remaining to back up. The amount displayed is refreshed at least once every 15 minutes.

 

Progress bar colors represent alert state:

  • Green: recent backup has occurred
  • Yellow: warning state
  • Red: critical state
 
o Last Activity   The time since this device sent any backup data to the specified destination.  
p Completed  

The time since this device last completed a backup to the specified destination. If there are multiple backup sets backing up to the same destination, indicates the time since the most recent backup set completed.

 
q Restore   Displays Restore window from which you can select the files / folders you want to restore from this archive. View Restore files from the CrashPlan console for additional information.

Archive action menu

  Actions or commands you can perform on the specified backup archive.  
s Used Storage   Total amount of data stored in this device's backup archive at the specified destination.  
t Storage   Displays the amount of Used Storage (item s) for the last 30 days. Data is updated once per day.  
u Settings   Read-only display of device settings for the selected device. Go to the action menu gear icon.png > Edit to change settings for this device.  

Device action menu

From device details, select the action menu gear icon.png.

Command Description
Edit Displays Device Settings, which you can use to edit settings for this device.
Deactivate Deactivates a device. Deactivation stops user backups.
Activate Activates a device that is currently deactivated.
Block Signs out the user and and prevents the user from signing in on this device until the device is unblocked. Backup continues and archives remain active and stored. Not available when the selected user is currently blocked.
Unblock Unblocks a currently blocked device.
Replace a device Designates this device to assume the backup archive and GUID of another device. 
Deauthorize Deauthorize this computer.
Pause Backup*

Pauses backup for a selected device.

Resume Backup* Resumes a backup that has been paused for a selected device.
Restart Backup Engine* Restarts the backup engine for a selected device.
Verify File Selection* Scans folders for file changes and deleted files.
Retrieve logs* Displays log screen. You can choose from a list of logs.

*This item currently appears in the action menu gear icon.png but has no effect if selected. To perform this action, use the CrashPlan app on your device instead.

Archive action menu

From the archive action menu Screenshot 2023-05-19 at 4.22.31 PM.png on the Device Details page, you can do the following:

Command Description
Maintain Archive Reclaims space in the backup archive by immediately applying file selection or retention policy changes (such as how many versions to keep and how long to keep deleted files).
Resume Backup Resumes a backup that has been paused for a selected device.
Pause Backup Pauses backup for a selected device.

History

If the device is online and the CrashPlan app is running, you can view the device's history in the console from this screen.

Restore history

From Device Details, select Restores (item h) to view the device's restore history.

Item Description
a Action menu

Includes an option to Export All (as CSV) the restore information.

b Operating System Displays the operating system of the device that received the restored data.
c User User whose data was restored.
d Restore To Device that received the restored data.
e # Files Number of files that were restored.
f Size Total size of the restored files.
g Transfer Rate Speed in Mbps of the file restoration.
h Restore Date Date and time the restoration occurred.
i Duration Total time taken to restore the files.

CSV export

Export all visible list items to a CSV file by selecting the action menu gear icon.png > Export All. If no device is selected, all devices in the list are exported.

user User whose backup data was restored.
deviceName Name of device that received the restored data.
numFiles Number of files that were restored.
numBytes Total size of the files restored.
transferRateBytesPerSecond Speed in Mbps of restore job.
startDate Date the restore started.
endDate Date the restore finished.
acceptingDeviceId ID of the device that received the restored data.
acceptingDeviceName Name of device that received the restored data.
AcceptingDeviceOsName Operating system of the device that received the restored data.
acceptingDeviceOsVersion Version of the operating system of the device that received the restored data.
acceptingType Type of device.
acceptingUserFirstName First name of the user whose device accepted the restored data.
acceptingUserId ID of the user whose device accepted the restored data.
acceptingUserLastName Last name of the user whose device accepted the restored data.
acceptingUsername User name of the user whose device accepted the restored data.
completedDate The date the restore finished.
rateByesPerSecond Speed in Mbps of restore job.
requestingUserId ID of the user who requested the restore.
restoreBytes Total bytes restored.
restoreFiles Number of files restored.
restoreId ID of the restore job.
sourceOrgId ID of the organization where the restored files originated.
sourceUserId ID of the user whose files were restored.
startDate Date the restore began.
