CrashPlan app version 10.4.1

November 21, 2022

  • Performance improvements.
  • Improvements to logging.
  • Updated all instances of Apache Commons Text to 1.10.0 to further mitigate the vulnerability described in CVE-2022-42889.
  • Fixed an issue where duplicate and nested folders appeared in archives of Windows devices containing files with ADS metadata.

CrashPlan app version 10.4.0

October 17, 2022

  • For Macs, uninstalling the CrashPlan app now uses a Terminal command, instead of the Uninstall.app file.
  • Released a new universal installer for Mac that works for both Intel (x86) and Silicon (ARM) devices.
  • Performance and stability improvements.
  • Fixed an issue where installing the CrashPlan app on a Linux Ubuntu or RHEL device did not prompt to install the libxss1 dependency if it was missing. The Code42 app uses this library to determine if the user is away or present.
  • Fixed an issue where usernames containing the $ character could prevent the user's home directory from backing up properly.
  • Fixed a rare issue where file downloads would stall on certain Mac devices .

  • Fixed an issue where the CrashPlan app could prevent users from renaming or deleting files in a OneDrive folder under specific circumstances.

  • Fixed an issue for Macs with the M1 processor where the CrashPlan app could use unexpectedly high amounts of memory and CPU resources under some circumstances.
  • Fixed an issue on macOS devices where opening a file without modifying it could result in a new version being backed up in some circumstances.

  • Security updates.
  • Removed support for Windows 10 version 2004 and Windows 10 version1909. Devices using these versions will no longer upgrade to newer versions of the CrashPlan app.
  • Fixed an issue where the Windows CrashPlan app did not upgrade to the newest version in some Amazon WorkSpaces instances.
  • Fixed a rare issue where searching from the Restore files screen in the CrashPlan app did not return any results.

  • Fixed several issues for Macs with the M1 processor where:
    • The CrashPlan app could use unexpectedly high amounts of memory.
    • Rosetta 2 was required to complete the installation process(even though the primary functions of the app did notuse Rosetta 2).
    • The Apple System Report settings could list the CrashPlan application type as "iOS." Now, it correctly displays "Apple Silicon."
  • Fixed an issue where thefile verification scanran more frequently than scheduled on some devices.
  • Mac devices no longer use audio and video activity to determine if the user isaway or present.
  • ForMacs with an external graphics cards (eGPU), fixed an issue where the CrashPlan app could prevent proper disconnection of the eGPU.
  • Fixed an issue affecting some Mac devices where the user was always detected as being "present."
  • Fixed an issue where theproxy auto-config (PAC) file was not evaluated correctly if the last line in the file was a comment (starting with //).
  • Fixed an issue where CrashPlan app upgrades could fail to download for devices connectedto the Internet via a proxy server.

Improved performance on Macs with the Apple M1 processor

A dedicated CrashPlan app optimized for devices with the M1 (Apple Silicon) processor offers better performance on M1 devices.

  • Devices with the M1 processor will automatically switch to the new optimized app during the upgrade to version 8.8.2.
  • Intel-based Macs continue to use the existing CrashPlan app.
  • Both versions of the app are available from the App Downloads screen in the CrashPlan console.

Other CrashPlan app updates

  • Updated the Log4j library from version 2.16.0 to version 2.17.1 tofurther mitigateCVE-2021-45105,CVE-2021-44832, andCVE- 2021-45046.
  • Security updates.
  • Performance and stability improvements.
  • Fixed an issue introduced in version 8.8.0 on Windows devices where the Process name in Task Manager appeared as "CrashPlan-App-Launcher." Now the name once again appears as"CrashPlan."

Known issue

  • The new CrashPlan app optimized for Mac devices with the M1 processor requires Rosetta 2 to complete the installation process. However, once the app installation is complete, performance is greatly improved because the primary functions of the app no longer use Rosetta 2. The small remaining dependencies on Rosetta 2 will be removed in a future release.
