File Selection Shows 0MB Selected

If the CrashPlan app shows 0 MB selected under the Files section on the Backup screen, review this article for troubleshooting information and recommended solutions.


Recommended solution

Permissions in Windows

A permissions issue in the Windows operating system could cause this issue. To determine whether or not there is a permissions issue:

  • From the Backup tab, click the Change button under Files to view your file selection
  • Verify that CrashPlan can see the contents of your folders by expanding them. If there is a permissions issue, the folder appears empty and the triangle to expand the folder disappears:


The CrashPlan app requires the SYSTEM user permissions in Windows to back up your files. If your folder appears empty, add the SYSTEM user permissions to the folder.

Cache corruption

CrashPlan stores a cache of information about your backup. If this cache is corrupted, the CrashPlan app might incorrectly report your file selection size as 0 MB. Clear the cache to correct this issue.
