If the CrashPlan app interface displays errors in the Restore tab or in your backup file selection window, then you may be running an outdated version of Java on your system.
CrashPlan app on OS X running Java 1.7.0_25 and earlier
In the example below, the issue causes blank spaces to appear in the list of the past file versions instead of the Name, Size, and Last Backed Up information. Similar issues may occur in the backup file selection window.
(Optional, for advanced users only)
Determine the version of Java you are running to verify that Java is causing the issue.
- Open Applications > Utilities > Terminal
- Enter the command
- Press Enter
The output will resemble the following:
java version "1.7.0_45" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45_b18) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode)
From the first line, you can see that the Java version in this example is 1.7.0_45. Issues arise with Java version 1.7.0_25 and earlier.
To resolve the issue, uninstall and reinstall the CrashPlan app.
