CrashPlan App Won't Open And Displays JavaLaunchError

Overview

When trying to open the CrashPlan app, a message displays stating CrashPlan quit unexpectedly. If you click Report in this message, the problem report includes the Application Specific Information: "Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'JavaLaunchError'."

This issue occurs when the CrashPlan app is set to open in 32-bit mode on a Mac with a 64-bit processor. You can correct the issue by updating the application's general settings.

Recommended solution

  1. Open the Finder and go to the Applications folder
  2. Control-click CrashPlan
    The shortcut menu appears
  3. Select Get Info
  4. Under General, deselect Open in 32-bit mode
  5. Open the CrashPlan app
    The CrashPlan app opens without issue
