Transferring A CrashPlan For Home Subscription To A Different Computer On Your Account

Applies to:
  • CrashPlan for Home

Overview

You may want to transfer an individual subscription if you accidentally applied a subscription to the wrong computer, or you no longer want to back a computer up to the Code42 cloud. This article describes how to transfer an individual subscription for CrashPlan for Home from one computer to another computer on your account.

Transfer subscription versus adoption

There are two ways to move a CrashPlan for Home subscription: transfer the subscription or adopt a previous computer. Each option is described below.

Transfer Subscription
  • The original computer's subscription is transferred to another computer, but backup archives and other CrashPlan settings are not.
  • The original computer stops backing up to the Code42 cloud.
  • The original computer's backup archive is deleted from the Code42 cloud according to our backup retention policy.
  • The computer that receives the subscription can start backing up to the Code42 cloud.
Adopt Previous Computer
  • The original computer's subscription, backup archives, and CrashPlan settings are transferred from one computer to another.
  • The original computer stops backing up to Code42 cloud.
  • Any files on your new computer that were previously backed up to the Code42 cloud from the original computer will not be resent.

This tutorial describes how to manually transfer a subscription. If you want to adopt instead, see our instructions on adopting a previous computer.
