Purchasing A CrashPlan For Home Subscription

Applies to:
  • CrashPlan for Home

Overview

Whether you are brand new to CrashPlan, you are coming to the end of a free trial, or you use the free version of CrashPlan for Home, this article provides step-by-step instructions for purchasing a CrashPlan for Home subscription.

Note: For details on the types of subscriptions available, see our considerations for choosing a CrashPlan for Home subscription.

Considerations

Email Address
  • It's important that you use the email from your existing CrashPlan for Home account or trial to purchase the subscription so that your license key can be applied to your account.
  • You can verify or update the email used for your account from the CrashPlan app under Settings > Account.
Purchasing Multiple Subscriptions
  • You can purchase subscriptions for different computers included on the same account (single email and password) at the same time. For example, you might purchase two individual plan subscriptions instead of a family plan if you want two computers covered by subscriptions.
  • Each computer can only be covered by a single subscription at any one time, and subscriptions are active starting on the day they are purchased. That means, for example, you can't purchase three monthly subscriptions and apply them to a single computer.
  • If you'd like to purchase subscriptions for two accounts, then we require two separate purchases: one using the first account's email and one using the second account's email. A CrashPlan for Home subscription is available exclusively to the email specified at the time of purchase.

Getting started with CrashPlan?

If you're new to CrashPlan for Home, check out our feature guide to see how it can benefit your file backup needs. Or better yet, start a free 30-day trial to decide for yourself. It's as easy as installing the CrashPlan app and creating an account – no credit card information required!

Upgrading from a trial

If you are coming to the end of your 30-day free trial subscription, and you are interested in the exclusive features that a CrashPlan for Home subscription offers, follow the steps to upgrade your account.

Considerations

Attention
  • Saving your credit card in the Payment Profile of the My Account page of our website does not automatically convert your trial to a paid subscription. You must purchase a subscription so we know the type and length of the subscription you want when the trial ends. The payment profile info is used for auto-renewing existing subscriptions only.
  • Once your trial ends, you have a grace period of 5-7 days to purchase and apply subscriptions before we remove your expired data from our servers. Any computers that aren't covered by a subscription after the grace period ends will have their online backups removed. See our backup retention policy for complete details.

Steps

  1. Open the CrashPlan app.
  2. Click the Sign up link on the Backup tab.
This opens our store so you can choose the plan that's right for you.
  3. Choose the plan that best meets your backup needs.
  4. Click Continue to Cart to check out.
  5. Follow the prompts to finish your purchase. Be sure to use the same email for your purchase as you are using for your CrashPlan trial account.

Applying your subscription license key

  • Family Subscriptions: If you used the same email to purchase a family subscription as the one you used for your CrashPlan for Home trial, we will auto-apply the subscription to all of the computers on your account. However, if any of your computers are offline, we may not be able to auto-apply the license key. Check Settings > Account on your computers to ensure the license key has been applied. If necessary, manually apply the license key.
  • Individual Subscriptions: If you used the same email to purchase an individual subscription as the one you used for your CrashPlan for Home trial, we will auto-apply the subscription to your computer.

Note: If you were backing up multiple computers during your free trial, but only purchase an individual subscription, we'll send you an email asking you to select the computer you want covered by the subscription.
