Anyone with an existing CrashPlan account can use the CrashPlan mobile app on Android or iOS to access files backed up to CrashPlan Central.

Get to know the CrashPlan mobile app
Once you've downloaded the CrashPlan mobile app for your device, sign in with your existing CrashPlan account information.
When you choose Stay signed in, you remain signed in to the CrashPlan mobile app until you decide to sign out. When you enable this option, you don't have to re-enter your username and password the next time you open the CrashPlan mobile app. To clear your sign-in information, simply sign out and deselect Stay signed in.
You can download any files that are backed up from your account to CrashPlan Central. In the CrashPlan app, this is shown under Destinations > Online.
To access your backed up files:
- Select a computer to begin navigating your backed up files.
- Tap a file to start downloading it to your device. A progress indicator next to the file name shows download progress. After the download is complete, tap on the file again to view it.
- Tap additional files to add them to your download queue. Files download in the order in which they are tapped.
Files downloaded to the CrashPlan mobile app can be shared via email or opened in compatible mobile apps. The CrashPlan mobile app does not back up files stored on your mobile device.

- Open files within other apps on your device that support the file type.
- Edit files within other apps on your device that support the file type.
- Send files as email attachments (you must have an email account configured on your device).
The CrashPlan app is intended as a way to access your backup files across your devices. However, any changes you make to files downloaded with the CrashPlan app will not sync to the original file or other devices.
If a newer version of a file you have already downloaded becomes available, an Update option displays on the home screen.
On Android devices, if you modify a file on your device, but later download an updated version from your backup archive, the updated version overwrites any changes made on your Android device.
Tap on the file you want to stop downloading. The progress indicator disappears to indicate that the download has been canceled.
From the Downloaded Files screen:
- Android: Long-press the file you'd like to delete and choose Delete File. To delete all of your downloaded files, press the menu button and choose Delete All. This option deletes all files in the CrashPlan folder.
- iOS: Swipe right to delete individual files. Alternatively, tap the Edit icon in the menu bar and select the files you'd like to delete or press Delete all files to remove all downloaded files.
Mobile data usage considerations
You can download files that are as large as 500 MB. To check the size of a file before you download it:
- Locate the file.
- View the file's details:
- Android: Long press the file name and select File Details to see the file size.
- iOS: Touch and hold the file name to open file details, including file size.
Limit mobile data usage
If you are concerned about mobile data usage with the CrashPlan mobile app, most mobile devices allow you to restrict usage by app. For additional information, consult your manufacturer's documentation. Several resources are listed below:

Upgraded security considerations
You can still use the CrashPlan mobile app if you have upgraded your CrashPlan security settings to either the archive key password or custom key option.
To access files from a computer that uses upgraded security:
- Tap the computer from the Devices list
- Enter your archive key password or custom key on the following screen

If you select Stay signed in from the app sign in screen, an additional option to Remember my private password (archive key password) or Remember my custom key displays when you are prompted to enter your additional security information.
If you enable this option, the app remembers your archive key password or custom key and you are not required to enter it each time you access files. To clear your sign-in information, simply sign out of the CrashPlan mobile app.

You can only see and download files that have been backed up to an online destination. Verify that the CrashPlan app is running on your computer and has recently backed up your files to an online destination.
No. It only removes it from your device.
- Android: All of the files you have downloaded remain in a CrashPlan folder on your SD card. You can delete this folder if you wish.
- iOS: All of the files you have downloaded are removed from from your device. If you've opened and saved the file in another app, that copy is not removed.
- Windows: All of the files you have downloaded are removed from from your device. If you've saved an image to the Pictures app, that copy is not removed.
On the Home screen, your current backup status is listed for each computer on your account. It shows last backup time, percent complete, and last backup.
No. The app does not allow you to remotely administer the CrashPlan app.
Certain OS X and iOS applications—most notably Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and GarageBand—save files in a proprietary Apple format called a package. A package file looks like a single file on your computer, but it is actually a folder containing multiple items. The CrashPlan mobile app treats these like any other folder. While you can download each file in the package individually, it is not possible to download the package as a single file. See our troubleshooting article for more information.
If you experience issues with the CrashPlan mobile app, uninstall and reinstall the CrashPlan mobile app.
You may need to change your device's network settings if you see a "Can't connect" error on certain carriers' mobile data networks.
