Backing Up Your BlackBerry

Overview

This tutorial explains how to back up your BlackBerry backup file, which stores your contacts, emails, SMS (text) messages, and other information.

Before you begin

  • In order to back up your BlackBerry with CrashPlan, you need to first back up your BlackBerry device to your computer. Then, you can add the BlackBerry backup file to your CrashPlan backup file selection.
  • Windows only: You will need administrative privileges to change the permissions for your BlackBerry backup file.

Steps

Windows

To back up your BlackBerry backup (.bbb or .ipd) file:

  1. Navigate to your BlackBerry backup file. The default location is:
    C:\Users\<user name>\My Documents\BlackBerry\Backup
  2. Add SYSTEM user permissions to the file
  3. Add the file to your CrashPlan backup file selection

OS X

To back up your BlackBerry backup (.bbb) file, simply add it to your backup file selection. The default location is: /Users/<username>/Documents/BlackBerry Backups
