Do I need a CrashPlan+ subscription to back up online?
Yes. All CrashPlan+ subscriptions come with online backup.
What's the difference between CrashPlan and CrashPlan+?
CrashPlan backs up once a day and uses 128-bit encryption. It is ad-supported.

Can I mix CrashPlan+ and CrashPlan within the same account?
Yes. Keep in mind that only computers with CrashPlan+ can back up to CrashPlan Central.
Can a computer with CrashPlan back up to a computer with CrashPlan+?
Absolutely. CrashPlan and CrashPlan+ are totally compatible.
How do I get maintenance updates if I am using the free version of CrashPlan?
You automatically get maintenance updates.
How do I get feature upgrades if I am using the free version of CrashPlan?
If you would like feature upgrades, you must purchase a CrashPlan+ subscription.
What's the difference between CrashPlan+ and CrashPlan PRO?
CrashPlan+ is for backup of personal data. CrashPlan PRO is for online backup of business data. Full specs for PRO are here.

Can I use CrashPlan or CrashPlan+ with CrashPlan PRO or CrashPlan PROe?
No. Our consumer products, CrashPlan / CrashPlan+ are totally separate from our business and enterprise products CrashPlan PRO and CrashPlan PROe. They cannot be used together or installed on the same computer.
Licensing
How is CrashPlan+ licensed?
CrashPlan+ comes in either monthly or annual subscription options. Please visit our store for current plans.
Can I buy a CrashPlan+ subscription without CrashPlan Central?
Not exactly. When you purchase CrashPlan+, you automatically receive 10GB free storage each month. You don't have to use it though (but why wouldn't you?).
Why does Code 42 MINNEAPOLIS, MN appear on my credit card bill?
We are Code 42 Software, the creators CrashPlan and CrashPlan PRO software. The charge for your CrashPlan purchases (including renewals) will appear on your credit card statement as 'CODE42 MINNEAPOLIS MN'
Can I purchase multiple subscriptions at a time?
Yes, if you are purchasing the subscriptions for a single account.
If you'd like to purchase subscriptions for two accounts, then you'll need to make two separate purchases - one using the first account's email address and one using the second account's email address. A CrashPlan+ subscription is available EXCLUSIVELY to the email address specified for delivery at the time of purchase.
Do you offer gift subscriptions?
Yes. We offer gift subscriptions that you can buy for new CrashPlan+ customers.
Do you offer family packs?
We offer family packs for CrashPlan+, which you can purchase in our store.

I have multiple computers. Should I install CrashPlan under the same account or different accounts?
If you'd like your family's computers under the same Family subscription, you must use the same account.
If you are not using or planning on using a Family subscription, this is a matter of personal preference. When computers are installed under the same account:
- All computers use the same email address and password
- All computers use the same private data password (if enabled)
- Any computer in the account can restore data to any other computer in the same account without entering a password (assuming the private data password is not enabled)
- Any computer in the account can be deactivated from any other computer in the account
Gift Subscriptions
Can I buy a Gift Subscription if I am already a CrashPlan+ customer?
Yes. You can buy a Gift Subscription for anyone who does not yet have a CrashPlan+ subscription.
Can I give a Gift Subscription to someone already using CrashPlan?
CrashPlan FREE users or people who are not already CrashPlan+ customers can receive a Gift Subscription. Users still in their 30-day free trial can also receive a Gift Subscription.
Existing CrashPlan+ customers cannot receive a Gift Subscription.
Will the Gift Subscription Recipient be notified when the Gift Subscription is purchased?
No. CrashPlan will not notify the Gift Subscription Recipient.
We send the Purchaser a Gift Certificate email message that includes instructions for the Recipient. When you're ready, forward the Gift Certificate email to the Gift Recipient or print and give the Gift Certificate to the Recipient.
When do Gift Subscriptions begin?
All Gift Subscriptions begin the day of purchase.
Will the Gift Recipient be notified before their Gift Subscription expires?
Yes.
How does the Gift Recipient start using a Gift Subscription?
- Download and install CrashPlan
- From the CrashPlan desktop, select New Account from the login screen and enter your information
- Go to Settings > Account and enter your License Key under License in the Key field
Do Gift Subscriptions renew automatically?
No. Gift Subscriptions do not renew automatically.
Can I buy more than one Gift Subscription?
You can buy one Gift Subscription per purchase. If you would like to give gift subscriptions to multiple people, you must complete the purchase process separately for each Gift Subscription.
What if the Recipient doesn't like the Gift Subscription?
The Recipient can cancel his or her Gift Subscription from My Account at www.crashplan.com and you (the Purchaser) will be credited for any full months remaining on the subscription.
Can I buy the Seeding or Restore To Your Door services when I buy a Gift Subscription?
No. If you would like to purchase the Seeding or Restore To Your Door services, you must do so via a separate purchase. Seeding or Restore To Your Door services cannot be gifted.
Renewing / Cancelling
Will I be notified when my subscription approaches its expiration date?
Yes. If you have a subscription or are on the 30-day free trial, you will receive an email to the account address 7 days before the expiration date. You will also receive an email on the expiration date if you allow your subscription to expire.
Will my yearly subscription automatically be renewed?
Yes. If you don't want your subscription to renew automatically, go to Settings > Account and click Manage My Accounts. Clear the Automatically renew subscriptions check box.
How do I cancel my CrashPlan+ subscription?
Log into your account at www.crashplan.com and click Cancel next to the subscription that you want to cancel. You'll receive an email message asking you to confirm your cancellation.
What is the cancellation policy?
Our No Strings cancellation policy automatically credits you for the remaining unused months on any plan. Note: We do not credit you for a partial month, so you will be charged for the current month.
When you cancel, we immediately credit the card we have on file for your account. If this card is no longer active, you must contact support@crashplan.com for assistance.
Switching / Moving / Reassigning
Is there an upgrade path from CrashPlan to CrashPlan+?
If you've been using CrashPlan and would like to start using CrashPlan+, you can simply purchase a CrashPlan+ subscription from our store.
Can I switch to a different CrashPlan+ subscription?
Absolutely! Full instructions are available by logging into My Account from www.crashplan.com.
You'll be refunded for the unused months on your old subscription and your backups will continue, uninterrupted.
What happens when I replace one computer with another?
Can I transfer my CrashPlan+ license to another computer?
Yes. Simply copy and paste the license into the other computer under Settings > Account. You'll be asked if you'd like to transfer the license key and the previously licensed computer reverts to the free version of CrashPlan.
Can I change which account a computer is registered to?
You can move a computer from one account to a different, existing account. Issue the deauthorize command to display the login screen and then log in with the other account info. You must start everything over from scratch.
CrashPlan Before Version 3
Is my old CrashPlan+ (perpetual) license is good?
Of course! If you like the features you already have, you don't have to do anything. You'll continue to enjoy the features you've been using.
I've been using CrashPlan+ since 2009 (or before), how do I get the new CrashPlan+?
